What is Short Life?
Short Life is a big-time exhilarating ragdoll physics platformer loaded with deadly traps, dark humor, and grisly-yet-satisfying failures. The horror-comedy was made in the Czech republic by GameTornado. Players get challenged to navigate 16 levels through increasingly dangerous spinning blades, explosions, and other creatively wicked death traps. The job? Flaunt your skills with a floppy character through finish lines while collecting stars to unlock brand-new weird characters. The over-the-top violence and trial-and-error gameplay make Short Life hilarious.
How to Play
- The WASD keys let you move your ragdoll about.
- Get the ragdoll alive to the end of each level and collect as many yellow stars as you can (up to three per stage).
- Stab yourself with saw blades, blow apart on mines, get sandwiched by huge gears, and then die all over again: it's old-fashioned physics-based entertainment with hazards and patterns to memorize.
Tips & Tricks
- Observe first: traps often come with timed cycles. Stop moving around to study their movement before going in.
- Stars are easiest to miss when you are panicking—plan your routes so you can grab them early, even though that may involve a bit of risk.
- The arrows will push you somewhere you don't want to go! Stay wary!
- Ragdoll Jiu-Jitsu: Flailing around can sometimes be more useful than trying to be precise.
- Spend your stars on new characters at the shop; some of them may have surprises in store for you.
Historical Background
Short Life is GameTornado's first absurdist horror installation, spawning other successors such as Lucky Life and Parkour Jump. The combination of slapstick violence and rudimentary aesthetics has gained a cult following, giving proof that ragdoll physics + imaginative traps = unlimited replayability.
