What is QWOP?
QWOP is a hilariously challenging ragdoll physics game that attempts to put the player in control of an Olympic sprinter. This game, made by Bennett Foddy, turns the simple act of running into a chaotic, muscle-twisting nightmare. Using only four keys, you will find yourself constantly struggling to coordinate the runner's thighs and calves in an effort to pass across the finish line. The worst thing is that it is frustrating, freaky, and endlessly entertaining.
How to Play
- Q & W: Move the runner's right thigh (Q lifts, W extends).
- O & P: Control the left thigh (O lifts, P extends).
- Goal: Somehow move forward without collapsing—all easier said than done!
Given the bizarre character of the game physics, expect a great number of faceplants before you get a grip on even a couple of steps.
Tips & Tricks
- Small Movements: Spamming keys will send your runner tumbling. Press gently and rhythmically.
- Balance: Alternate legs smoothly—think of it as a weird, janky dance.
- Patience: Progress is slow. Celebrate every meter gained!
History
QWOP was created by Bennett Foddy back in 2008. It immediately became a cult classic due to its absurd difficulty mixed with slapstick humor. This has spawned countless memes, reaction videos, and even speedrun attempts. Despite (or possibly because of) the frustration caused by the mechanics, the game survived as a test of perseverance in the hearts of many.
