What is Klondike Solitaire?
The traditional solitaire for one has been the challenge for minds of generations. The objective? A player is to sort all 52 cards into four foundation piles-one for each suit-in ascending sequence (Ace to King). Skill, patience, and a little luck make Klondike one of the most popular kinds of solitaire.
How To Play
- Set up: Seven piles of cards are dealt face-down, with the top card flipped face-up. Remaining cards constitute the draw pile.
- Foundations: Build up in suits (♣ ♥ ♦ ♠) from Aces to Kings in the foundation spaces.
- Tableau: Arrange cards in descending order (King to Ace) while alternating colors (red/black).
- Draw pile: Click through the deck one (or three) cards at a time to uncover cards you can play.
- Winning: All four foundation piles must be topped up to win!
Tips & Tricks
-
Think Ahead: Reveal hidden tableau cards as early as possible to maximize moves.
-
Empty Columns: Use these spaces to temporarily place Kings or piles beginning with Kings.
-
Power-Ups: Hints assist in finding moves, while Undo allows you to retrace them.
-
Be Patient: Don't rush through the draw pile; you may need a card buried too deep to reach just yet.
History
Thanks to its inclusion as a Windows pre-installed game in the 1990s, Klondike gained the heights in popularity. Closer to their genesis, tracing back to the 18th century, they had evolved from few European gambling games. The name "Klondike" is a nostalgic nod to the gold rush days, which symbolize the intoxicating joy of finding hidden victories.
Customization
Change card-back and table designs to suit a fresh look for the game. Whether an elegant modern style or something more vintage suits your liking, Klondike can accommodate.
